Latitudes

2006

4 Photoworks from the series ‘Latitudes’ present images of the frozen (lake) reservoir near Tolyatti. Tolyatti’s predecessor- Stavropol   with adjacent villages- was fully flooded in 1953 in order to build a hydro electric powerstation. Since then houses, churches, gravestones, human residues buried on the bottom of the lake drift to its surface. The people of Tolyatti regularly find traces and signs of past life. The mid winter crust on the lake  becomes metaphorical for a frozen past.

C-prints, framed, 130 x 130 cm.
