Moldova

2003

In the cities, I’ve photographed at night, the Moldovian capital Chisinau turned out to be one of the darkest. After capitalism burst upon the former Sovjet republic, and a Spanish multinational purchased the electricity supply,  the city council  could no longer afford proper streetlights. Since then, the scanty lighting in Chisinau largely comes from large scale lightboxes, and commercials.

The images reveal how the world in bright advertisements contrasts with the gloomy setting of decaying urban buildings.

Moldova consists of five Lambdaprints, size 42 x 59 cm. presented in a folder. Edition of 20 + 2 AP.
